My research interests span across many inter-related disciplines including biodiversity management, ecology, biogeography, conservation biology, taxonomy and systematics.
Previous research work I have been involved includes avian and mammalian ecology studies while my current work mainly focuses on Odonata. Other taxa that I am mostly interested in are Avifauna, Tiger Beetles, Spiders, Scorpions and Butterflies.
I also collaborate with other researchers and organizations in research and conservation work related to endangered species and ecosystems.

Current Projects
Odonata Research and ConservationMy odonata research work is related to studying their taxonomy, biogeography, ecology and conservation in Sri Lanka.
Previous WorkResource Partitioning of Sympatric ArdeidsMy undergraduate research work focused on the feeding behaviours and the resource partitioning of two sympatric Ardeid species in a freshwater marsh habitat. The two study species was Ardea purpurae and Mesophoyx intermedia. Their feeding behaviours, diurnal activity pattern and feeding resource partitioning was studied in a freshwater marshland in the Bolgoda South Lake system, Sri Lanka.

Biodiversity DocumentationWith the collaboration of other researchers and collaborators I document the faunal diversity around the country, especially it's terrestrial and freshwater arthropods. Some of my observations are shared in iNatiralist citizen science platform.
Biodiversity of up-country Tea PlantationsTea plantations are one of the dominant land use pattern in the up-country of Sri Lanka. We conducted biodiversity assessments in several such plantations and compiled the findings showing the overall biological diversity in the landscape. With further improvements in habitats and agricultural practices this can be used as a land use with a better conservation value.

Other ProjectsProjects related to Primate Conservation, Migratory Bird Studies, Conservation of Urban Wetlands, Biodiversity surveys etc.
Savanna BiodiversityA project was conducted by the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka under the supervision of Prof. Devaka Weerakoon to assess the biodiversity of Savanna ecosystems in Sri Lanka. We conducted faunal and floral surveys throughout the range where savanna are found in the country and documented their biodiversity.
