About MeI am a field biologist working in Sri Lanka, a biodiversity rich tropical island nation. My research mainly focuses on disciplines such as biodiversity, ecology, biogeography and conservation biology. Odonata is the taxa I am mostly interested in and mostly working on. However, I contribute to the research on arthropods, avifauna and other faunal taxa too.
My never ending passion for biology started in my early teens. Ever since then I have always been a naturalist, a birdwatcher and an enthusiastic biology student. This interests developed more in my late teens turning me in to a systematic field biologist under the guidance of many experts in the field. Over the years I have become a dedicated field researcher in Sri Lanka with a dream of contributing significantly to the conservation of biodiversity deeply embedded in my mind. |
Research |
My research mainly focuses on the taxonomy, biogeography, habitat preferences, natural history and conservation of odonata. During the past years I have done odonatological surveys in many areas in Sri Lanka and few locations in India including Andaman Islands. I am also working on some taxonomic work related to odonate species yet unknown to science and pursuing my M.Phil. degree focusing on the biogeography of Sri Lankan Odonata. Apart from my odonata research, I contribute to the field research work carried out by the Field Ornithology Group of Sri Lanka and assist several of my colleagues in their research work as a field biologist.

Conservation |
Conservation can only be achieved by incorporating various disciplines in to the process. I am contributing towards the science base conservation movement in Sri Lanka by conducting conservation oriented research and assessments, contributing to the national red listing assessment as a member of several fauna expert panels, raising conservation awareness through various outreach activities and training amateur students and naturalists.

Organizations and Collaborations |
I am an active member of several nonprofit conservation societies in Sri Lanka. My activities with these groups benefits both the organization and its membership through my contribution to achieve their common goals. I also collaborate with other local and international partners.
